Earthquake Cake Dutch Oven Dessert Recipe

“Though messy, this cake is really yummy!”  This gooey, rich, delicious Earthquake Cake is full of chocolate, pecan, and coconuts and is an explosion of flavor in every bite!

1 Cup Chopped Pecans
1 Cup Coconut
1 German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 (8 oz.) package Cream Cheese, softened
1 Stick Butter or Margarine, softened
1 Pound Powered Sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla

Directions:
Warm and oil well your 12″ Regular Dutch Oven. Sprinkle pecans and coconut on the bottom of dutch oven. Mix cake mix according to directions on the box; pour over pecans and coconut. Mix cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Drop by spoonfuls onto cake. Bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. Cook until you smell it and you see steam coming out from under your dutch oven lid. Cake will crack open when done!!!

Took this cake to a party the first time I made it and was a little frightened at it’s appearance. When I flipped it out of the cake pan it kind of sank in the middle and looked like it wasn’t quite done cooking. It was though and it tastes FABULOUS if you can ignore how it looks. It’s very rich and moist and the coconut and pecans add a nice crunch.
